Description: The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal
Flood Watch, which is in effect from late tonight through late
Friday night.

* LOCATION…Along the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River in
Westmoreland, Lancaster, and Northumberland Counties in
Virginia.

* TIMING…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 5 AM EDT
Friday. For the Coastal Flood Watch, from late tonight through
late Friday night.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS…Up to one foot of inundation above
ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines
and tidal waterways. Water levels may reach 1 to 2 feet above
ground level in some areas on Friday resulting in a sufficient
depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses.
Instruction: A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds…wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore…and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If
travel is necessary…do not attempt to drive through water of
unknown depth.

A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings…and take action to
protect property.
